Why did Yahoo Eliminate the Classic Interface
The once mighty internet giant, Yahoo, still boasts a user base of 110 million for its email service and may be because of this, the team at Yahoo has tried its best in overhauling the interface. The change in the mobile technology and the subsequent popularity gained by smart phones like iPhone, Windows Phone, Android, Blackberry etc. has urged the need from Yahoo to make the email interface compatible interface that can work seamlessly on these mobiles.
Also, the penetration of Gmail in the market and its quick scaling up with the mobile technologies also forced Yahoo to build and offer a competitive product.
Yahoo’s old Classic interface was little infamous for its clustered design and slow speed. If you can recollect the old mail client, all those distorting elements can flash on your memory lanes once again. Over the years and to withstand the competition, Yahoo could not live any longer with such excess baggage and the time was up for a complete reshuffle in the design.
Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer, in her recent blog post, made it abundantly clear that the new mail client is focused on eliminating all these pitfalls. She stated that all the blurry elements were removed and the new interface can be operated with better speed than ever. Mayer expressed her hope for a better future for new Yahoo mail interface and resonated the hope in her post by writing “this is the just the beginning.”
What is New in Yahoo’s New Email Client
Yahoo has said that the new email client is equipped with improvised technological advancements that are capable of improving the customer experience completely. It says that the email inbox loads much faster than in the past and composition of messages and sending them out are faster than anticipated. Yahoo’s data mining reports estimate that with this increased performance, more than 600,000 man hours of their global users.
The Android app from Yahoo has been reprogrammed from scratch and the new version is no more a batter-drainer, as per the sources from Yahoo. The claim that the improvised app can contribute 20 – 40% of batter life saving. Similarly the Window 8 version has been impeccably integrated with the OS and offers live tile support and can support Outlook as well.
Though none of the above features are highly innovative or revolutionary, as far as Yahoo is concerned they can help in the revival of some of the lost glory of the company.
